Lake Clark National Park and Preserve, Alaska

Despite being twice the size of the state of Connecticut and having a reputation of being Alaska’s “wildest” park, Lake Clark National Park is one of the least visited national parks in the United States. The relatively light human foot traffic makes it possible for visitors to experience unparalleled amounts of untouched wildlife up close. This is especially true of the park’s Cook Inlet coastline, where guides lead groups to view brown bears feeding on wild salmon.

Masada National Park, Israel

This natural fortress in the desert of Israel overlooks the mineral-rich Dead Sea, a popular spot for skincare fanatics to soak up the natural nutrients and relax. A site of great archaeological significance, it was home to the palace of King Herod in 37 B.C.E. History buffs will love checking out the amazingly well preserved examples of iconic Roman architecture.

Torres Del Paine National Park, Chile

This breathtaking park encompasses the world famous Chilean region of Patagonia, a hotspot for scenic hiking and nature observation. Guests who opt to lodge at Ecocamp Patagonia, the only hotel within the park’s boundaries, can stay in eco-chic miniature geodesic domes.

Fiordland National Park, New Zealand

The animals and wildlife that call Fiordland home have evolved in relative isolation, meaning that many species are actually unique to New Zealand’s South Island. Nowhere is the beauty of this untouched wonderland more undeniable than on nature cruises through Milford Sound and its majestic falls or excursions into the weird and wonderful Te Anau Glowworm Caves.

Tijuca National Park, Brazil

The world’s largest urban forest, Tijuca Forest was re-planted by hand in the 1800s in a region that had previously been cleared for the harvesting of sugar and coffee. This recultivation of a lush forest is a blessing for all as it is now not only home to wildlife but to beautiful man-made structures such as the iconic gazebo of Vista Chinesa and the charmingly pastel pink Mayrink Chapel, which dates back to 1860. This forest is truly an Instagramer’s paradise.

Fuji-Hakone-Izu National Park, Japan

Just a hop and a skip outside of Tokyo, this gem is Japan’s most visited national park. While the mighty Mount Fuji is undoubtedly the park’s centerpiece, it is also known for its steamy hot springs, which feel amazing after a long hike around the sparkling shores of Lake Ashi or an adventure to the famous Hakone Shrine.

Black Canyon of Gunnison National Park, Colorado, USA

Colorado’s answer to the Grand Canyon, the Black Canyon of Gunnison National Park is home to spectacular views of a 2,000-foot rocky descent into the rushing waters of the Gunnison River. While only experienced climbers should attempt to scale the canyon walls, the park also boasts world famous trout fishing, scenic drives and hikes, and campsites to pitch a tent with a goosebump-worthy view.
