Jackson Hole, Wyoming
Whether you're mountain-bound or in it for the après ski.
Those craving a year-round destination that delivers on wide-open spaces and epic nature should consider booking a trip to Wyoming’s crown jewel. No matter the weather, this is a place to experience the outdoors—especially since there’s easy access to Grand Teton National Park, Yellowstone National Park and the National Elk Refuge. Fall brings stunning foliage, and in the winter, there are almost 2,500 acres of slopes to choose from (and 400 inches of annual snowfall make it a dream to ski). Spring and summer provide opportunities for hiking, fly fishing and more. And when you need a break from the adventures, the town itself is home to top-notch restaurants, art galleries and charming locally owned boutiques. Here are a few of our favorite spots.
Did You Know?
There are more than 60 species of mammals, 100 types of birds and close to a dozen game fish that can be found in the Jackson Hole and Yellowstone area. Whenever you’re on an excursion to the national parks—either on your own or arranged through your hotel—keep your eyes peeled for elk, ospreys, bison, black bears and pronghorn antelope.

The Hike: Delta Lake
Get up close to the natural splendor that is Grand Teton National Park on a seven-mile hike to this crystal-clear glacial lake. You’ll gain an elevation of 2,400 feet, and traverse switchbacks on an unmaintained trail through wildflower fields, passing beautiful scenery like snow-capped peaks on the way. The effort will all be worth it when you finally arrive at the turquoise water; go ahead and take a plunge, though the water can still be chilly even on the hottest summer day.

The Festival: Targhee Bluegrass
This storied music festival, which takes place August 10-12 at the Grand Targhee Ski Resort (about 46 miles from Teton Village), celebrates its 30th anniversary this year. There are 18 performances on the line-up, and headliners include The Infamous Stringdusters, Greensky Bluegrass and I'm With Her. You could rent an on-site campground and make a weekend of it, or book a room at the property or elsewhere and take advantage of the free shuttle service. In addition to the shows, you’ll find vendors selling handmade crafts and a kid’s zone. (The resort is also hosting the Targhee Fest on July 13-15.)

Snake River Grill
This locally beloved spot on Town Square has been a favorite for more than two decades. While the experience is white-tablecloth fine dining, it still manages to feel rustic and unpretentious. Comforting dishes like pan seared Australian snapper in Romesco broth and a crispy pork shank with cider glaze always hit the spot after a long day on the mountain—but make sure to save room for dessert of warm chocolate bread pudding with bourbon-vanilla ice cream, caramel, pecan toffee.
The Old Yellowstone Garage
Paulie O’Connor, a James Beard Award semifinalist for Best Chef in the Northwest, runs this cozy log cabin spot. But don’t let the simple aesthetic fool you: the dishes are incredible. Housemate pastas are created with flour from Italy, and the "secondi" plates (like Barolo braised hand grenade short ribs) are layered and intricate.
